The energy of the GCBA is not only found on the basketball court, it is also in the ranks of the volunteers that make the program work week in and week out. Volunteers are coaches, assistant coaches, team managers, scorers, timers, convenors, directors and members of the Executive.
Basketball experience is not necessary - just a desire to do something for the community! And, having children in the GCBA programs is not a necessity either! We welcome basketball lovers from all over, and many of our volunteers are just "in it for the ball" and for the kids.
Volunteer Screening
The GCBA has instituted a background police check program to help assure the safety of our players. Volunteers working directly with children will be asked to submit to a background check and may be asked to provide personal references. Please do not take offense at this practice - we are following guidelines established by a number of sports and non-profit organizations across the province of Ontario.

INTRODUCTION OF GCBA OPERATIONAL VOLUNTEER CREDITS
as of SEPTEMBER 2011
In acknowledgement and appreciation of the dedicated service of key volunteers with 30+ hours of service seasonally…The GCBA has instituted a system of VOLUNTEER CREDIT REBATES on GCBA REGISTRATIONS to all VOLUNTEERS who dedicate 30+ HOURS of VOLUNTEER SERVICE to the GCBA HL OR Competitive OPERATIONS in the upcoming season.
These discounts will apply ON PLAYER REGISTRATIONS for the 2012-13 Season forward.
VOLUNTEER POSITIONS THAT WILL QUALIFY FOR THESE REGISTRATION REBATES will be:
- CONVENOR
- COACH
- ASST COACH
- MANAGER (WOLVERINES)
- TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR
- SPECIAL EVENT VOLUNTEERS with 30+ HOURS OF SERVICE
IF YOU QUALIFY FOR A VOLUNTEER CREDIT THE $30 REGISTRATION REBATE WILL APPLY ON A 1:1 BASIS ie. ONE VOL CREDIT towards ONE PLAYER REGISTRATION DISCOUNT.
VOLUNTEER CREDITS FOR NON-PARENT VOLUNTEERS CAN BE TRANSFERRED TO ANY PLAYER REGISTRATION ON THE SAME 1:1 BASIS.
